*2012 DEEPERTRUTHBLOG POST OF THE YEAR--BEST OF DTB #166* 7 Last words of Jesus with pro-life reflections

Composed by Margie Sindelar

(1) Then said Jesus, “ Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do ”. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots” (Luke 23:34).

The soldiers oblivious to the suffering of an innocent God/Man are focused on the material gain of the situation. How many are oblivious to the sufferings of the unborn child who endures that abortion, because material things are the priority? The souls of these children cry out…. ”Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do”. Let us pray for all expectant Mothers and the Fathers, that they recognize the value of a human life from conception to natural death. Lord of Life, forgive our world for this great sin, that destroys a child, made in the image and likeness of You.

(2) And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, “ Today thou shalt be with me in paradise ” (Luke 23:43).

The repentant thief was rewarded with the promise of paradise. Let us pray that all of those involved in abortions, seek the healing and forgiveness that awaits them, in the infinite Merciful Heart of Jesus, so that they too may share in that same paradise and proclaim for all eternity, His profound mercy.

(3) When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, “ Woman, behold thy son ! Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother ! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home” (John 19:26-27).

Jesus is giving us the gift of His Mother. Let us pray, in union with our heavenly Mother, for protection of the unborn, so hidden and vulnerable. Through the intercession of all those who were denied life here, yet reign with You Lord, shower us with the waters of your grace to be open to life and to commit to protecting each child in the womb, with the same zeal that your Mother protected you. We thank you Lord for the gift of our earthly mothers, who chose life for us.

(4) And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, l ama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me ?” (Matthew 27:46)

Jesus experiences a moment of separation from God, His Father, because of the sins he took upon Himself for us. An unborn child, whose life is snuffed out by abortion, is not abandoned by God, but by those whom God has placed in its care. Let us pray that our society recognizes the poorest of the poor, the unborn, who are the most helpless and the most abandoned.

(5) After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, saith, “ I thirst ” (John 19:28).

Jesus was thirsting for the salvation of souls. Let us pray, Lord you thirst for the life of each child conceived, to be born into this world, so that they may know You, love You and serve You. Give us a thirst to actively work in the pro-life movement, to help mothers in need, and offer healing for those wounded by this sin. May we see that life is the right of every child, not a special privilege for the planned, the fortunate and the perfect.

(6) When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, He said, “ It is finished ! and He bowed His head, and gave up the ghost. (John 19:30).

Jesus’ last words meant that His suffering was finished, He had paid the sin debt in full – it was done, accomplished, fulfilled. When the abortion is completed and the child exists no longer within the life womb that was supposed to protect and nurture it, the Mother cries “It is finished”. But the pain, guilt and regret of abortion is never finished, it remains with the Mother a lifetime. Let us pray, for an end to this curse of abortion, so we may become a “People of Life”!!

(7) And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, “ Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit : and having said thus, he gave up the ghost” (Luke 23:46).

Jesus offers His Spirit to the Father and He accepts the sacrifice. Let us pray that all may appreciate the sacrifices of Motherhood as a precious gift given by a Loving God.
