The Catholic Defender: Freedom

One of the most important words from the movie "Braveheart" that penetrate the core of the movie was when William Wallace (Mel Gibson) yells out "Freedom" during immense torture.

The people watching were reduced to silence because of the impact of how important "Freedom" meant.

I was needing to get gas for my Ford Expedition when I was confronted to the high price of gasoline.

The thought "Freedom" came to mind as I see these high prices limiting our freedom of movement.

It seems that everything is hitting our economy all at once. This is certainly restricting many accross the Country.

The political will today seems to be hurting job creation along with transportation. The economic crisis is hurting family trips and vacations.

Small family businesses seem to be hurting the most because people are not buying as much. People are also getting more in credit card debt which will hurt their buying power eventually.

Our Nation is 15 Trillion dollars in debt, 40% of the dollar pays for interest to China. That is not a good situation for us at all.

We are enslaving our Grandchildren with this massive debt. Yet our political will is to keep spending more than we take in revenue.

You don't have to be an economist to know this is a slippery slope to the problems of Greece if we do not turn things around.

Another problem I see attacking "freedom" is the political will to attack the Catholic Faith.

Regardless if you are Catholic or not, what Washinton is wanting to do should concern you. The United States Constitution is bedrock in providing "freedom" of religion.

Yet, if the Government can reduce your freedom to only following the Government, we are moved by the State and not faith.

Whenever this has happened, tyranny is the result. The Progressives in our Country want to destroy or limit your freedom.

My Brigade Chaplain warned me while in Iraq that the Homosexual lobby has already approached the Chaplains telling them they would have to modify what they preach from the pulpit.

This is a great attack on religious freedom as Soldiers have no voice. Chaplains are being weighed down with many Christian Soldiers who are being harrassed by the politics being implimented in the ranks.

The recent attack on the Catholic Church by the Obama Administration trying to force The Church to yield to the power of the Health and Human Services Organization is an attack on the Constitution and our freedom.

Yet, people are acting like a mouse in a maze not suspecting the snake peering around the next module.

What is awaiting us around the next module? Recently, Obama was speaking with a leader of Russia not aware that a mike was picking up their conversation.

Obama was clear that he expects to win the next election and if he does, he would not have the hurdles on him that he does now.

What further freedoms does Obama plan to smash? What defense secrets is he willing to hand out?

St. Paul gives us this encouragement, "For this momentary light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to what is seen but to what is unseen; for what is seen is transitory, but what is unseen is eternal" (2 Corinthians 4:17-18).

What it takes for evil to triumph is for good people to do nothing. Like the mouse cought in a maze, we have the chance to correct and stand up for our rights.

I was watching Fox News and learned that some Catholic Bishops were not thrilled about the "Paul Ryan Plan" which is designed to set our Country on a course to help get us on the right track.

My concern here is that we are becoming more and more dependent to the Government for everything.

That has never worked any time nor anywhere. A Nanny State where nearly 40% of our people are on foodstamps is not good for our economy. Especially when this particular Administration plans to limit the power of the Church.
